Hayao Miyazaki as the founder of Studi Ghibli whose famous works included My neighbor Totoro, Laputa: Castle in the Sky, Kiki's Delivery Service, Spirited Away, won the Person of Cultural Merit (文化功労者). He will, as the first animation director for this award, receive it on 3rd of November, 2012.

For those who wondering what "Person of Cultural Merit" means. On every 3rd of November Japanese government gives this award to someone who significantly contributed to the culture. A winner will receive 3.5million JPY every year for entire her/his life.

The winner does not necessarily be Japanese! Marius Berthus Jansen (Japan study expert), Donald Lawrence Keene (Japanologist) and Sadaharu Oh (Baseball player) also won. This means we have some hope if we try hard?!
