Akira's Otomo Awarded Purple Ribbon Medal

 

Every 2nd of November in Japan is a special day to announce the winners of national medal. This tradition goes back to 1881.

 

Amongst medals, the medal with purple ribbon is for those who accomplished significantly in the art area like music, novel, movie etc.

 

Katsuhiro Otomo, the 59 year old manga artist known for Akira (1988), Memories (1995) and Steamboy (2004), got awarded this purple ribbon.

 

Mr. Otomo is the 4th person to recieve this medal in the area of animation/manga. The past winners are Yoji Kuri, Taku Furukawa and Isao Takahata.

 

Did you know Akira being tipped to be made into a live action movie,

and its producer being Leonardo DiCaprio? Due to the high production cost, the plan has stopped and restarted sometimes. The Warner Bro says the production scheduled to start in 2014. Onegai Kaeru will keep you updated!
