In this article we introduce how to get Yakushima island and also the list of places(over 120 guesthouses, inns, cottages, pensions, hotels, camping sites) to stay on the island( probably the biggest list online!).
This island is with the title of Word Heritage and also featured in several famous movies like Princess Mononoke by Hayao Miyazaki and games like Tekken and Metal Gear Solid. You will enjoy not only the great wild nature but also wonderful hot springs here and there on the island.
The island is called Yakushima Island.
It is a round shaped land of 504.88 km2 located in Kagoshima prefecture (South of Japan). 13, 500 people living on the island. The most famous of all is the very old Japanese cedar
(“Yakusugi/Jomonsugi(縄文杉)”) around 2300 years old.

First of all, you cannot go to Yakushima island from the Kagoshima city center by car because there is no bridge or tunnel.
By air
The direct flights are:
90mins from Itami( Osaka) airport to Yakushima airport (once a day by JAC)
65mins from Fukuoka airport to Yakushima airport (once a day by JAC)
30mins from Kagoshima airport to Yakushima airport (5 times a day by JAC)

By sea
11hours from Taniyama port, Kagoshima to Miyanoura port, Yakushima via Tanegashima island by Ferry Hibiscus (once a day)
1 hour and 5 mins from Shimama port, Tanegashima island, to Miyanoura port, Yakushima by Ferry Taiyo (once a day)
4 hours from Kagoshima port, Kagoshima to Miyanoura port, Yakushima by Ferry Yakushima 2 (once a day)
1 hour and 45-50 mins from Kagoshima port, Kagoshima to Miyanoura port, Yakushima by Jetfoil Toppy&Rocket (twice a day)
2 hours from Kagoshima port, Kagoshima to Miyanoura port, Yakushima ( via Ibusuki port, Kagoshima island) by Jetfoil Toppy&Rocket (once a day)
2 hours and 35-40 mins from Kagoshima port, Kagoshima to Miyanoura port, Yakushima (via Nishinoomote, Tanegashima) by Jetfoil Toppy&Rocket (twice a day)

So now you know how to get to the island. Now where should you stay? Some wants a total relaxation and some wants a friendly guesthouse and some wants camping. In our hope to serve everyone's taste, here is the comprehensive list of the places to stay on Yakushima Island (as of September, 2015).
The list is too big to process with the small Onegai Kaeru team thus still in progress. If you see any information( some good places missing, broken link etc.) missing, please let us know.
