Ever watched Japanese comedians on TV? Some love and some do not love it. Well, we love the comedy on TV in Japan.

Foreign ( non Japanese ) comedians in Japan

There are several foreign (non-Japanese) comedians in Japan.

old way of becoming a comedian in Japan

Traditionally speaking you first become a student of a famous comedian (or if the comedian is too big, you become a student of a student of a student of that comedian!).

Many famous stories about comedians who are famous now in Japan; how they tried so hard to be students of the big stars. Some waited for the star comedian to come out of the TV/radio station every day for 6 month-1 year and asked him/her to be his/her student. Almost like a scary stalker today..

Today we have a new system besides such "a traditional" way.

School for comedian open

Enroll into a school of comedian and try to find a opportunity.

Yoshimoto Kogyo, the major comedian talent agency, has a school system. Their school is called Yoshimoto Kogyo NSC School.

How much it costs? It is usually around 108,000jpy to enter, 324,000jpy for the tuition and 5,000jpy insurance for the schools in Tokyo and Osaka. A bit cheaper for Sendai, Nagoya, Hiroshima, Fukuoka and Okinawa schools.

Btw, the school has the interview test which costs around 5,000JPY.

How hard to pass the interview? Allegedly 99% applicants pass.

Do you need a Japanese skill? We say not impossible to pass with little Japanese skill but yes, you better have a Japanese skill.

Other schools are including Shochikugeino offer the training course too.
