LOKALU – Rent a Male Friend for Casual Chat in Japan

Are you looking for a casual chat with a friendly male companion while in Japan? LOKALU connects you with ordinary men from the streets of Japan—no professional tour guides, just everyday people who are open to conversations over coffee, a casual walk, or a relaxed meetup.

 

Whether you're new in town, traveling solo, or simply looking for someone to chat with, LOKALU offers a unique way to meet locals living in Japan.

 

This is the friend rental only for travelers in Japan. If you are based in Japan, you do not need this service :) 

If you are a female travelling in Japan and looks for another local female friend, you can use F-R-I-E-N, female only friend rental.

 

What You Can Expect with LOKALU

    Our simple process allows you to connect with a LOKALU at your preferred location and time.

Who Are Our LOKALU Friends?

  • Everyday men from different backgrounds—some are Japanese, others are long-term foreign residents in Japan.
  • They are not professional guides, Japanese teacher, or entertainers—just people who are open to friendly conversations.
  • They will not accompany you to private areas such as hotels, private houses, or cars.

Service Fees & Terms

  • Friend Rental Fee: $60 for up to two hours (you can choose one or two hours, but the price remains the same). The rental fee shall be pre-paid at least 48 hours before the meeting time to the online invoice, or the arrangement be cancelled. When you cancel the arrangement after 24hours before the arrangement, the arrangement fee will not be refunded. 
  • ID Verification Fee: $20 (non-refundable, required for security screening).
  • Travel Fee: To be paid in cash at the time of the meeting. The travel fee will be informed in advance for your consent.
  • Additional Costs: Any expenses during the meetup, such as food, drinks, and activity fees, must be covered by the customer.

Code of Conduct

  • No photos or videos of the LOKALU friend without their permission.
  • No inappropriate behavior—any misconduct will be reported to authorities.
  • Public meetups only—LOKALU friends will not enter private spaces.
  • Prepayment - LOKALU fee needs to be paid at least 48 hours before the meeting time

How to Book a LOKALU Friend

  1. Contact us with your preferred date, location, and any other details. Ideally, contact us at least 3-4 days before the preferred day to meet.
  2. Receive an invoice for $80 (this includes a $20 ID check fee + $60 advance friend rental fee). The invoice shall be paid at least 48 hours before the meeting time or the request be automatically cancelled.
  3. After payment, we share your request with LOKALU friends.
  4. If a LOKALU friend is available, we will inform you. If multiple friends are available, you can choose one. If no one is available at LOKALU fault, your $60 rental fee will be refunded, but the $10 ID check fee is non-refundable (once ID verified, you can use the LOKALU as many time as you want during 6 month after the ID check). When you cancel the arrangement after 24hours before the arrangement, all the LOKALU arrangement fee will not be refunded as we will pay the LOKALU. 
  5. Meet your LOKALU and pay the agreed travel fee in cash.

Unless necessary info provided and the fee paid on time, there shall be no arrangement.
